Hi fellow R290 owners,
I just received my R290 from *e1* on Ebay and after wasting 3-4 hours trying to get it to work in satellite mode, it now makes & receives sat calls.
However I think there may be a problem with the charging system or the batteries may be suspect, so I have a cvouple of questions I am hoping you can answer in order to isolate the problem.
1. Does the phone power up without the battery if the mains charger is plugged in and turned on ?
2. If the battery is full, does the phone indicate via display message that the battery is full ?
3. Any other quirky charging tips ?
Thanks
Phil P

Phil,
It sounds as though you do not have the manual - download it from *EI*'s website. It should answer all your questions.
I think
mine operates OK with the charger plugged in - if you think the charger is dicky try the 12V one.
Cheers,
Pete

The phone will work with the charger attached. Battery life isn't great so not worth leaving on for a long time unless attached to the charger. 12v charger will really only work when driving - needs >14v to charge the phone, I think. Phone light blinks slower when charging has stopped.
Well worth downloading the manual.

Off topic, but I had to get Globalstar to change the 'SIM Centre' setting to get the r290 to send SMS text. Suggest you
check this before "heading out".
Cheers,
Brad.

The problem with my phone is not that I don't have instructions but both my chargers have faulty cables. If you bend them a certain way then the phone charges !
It will be interesting to see how the warranty issues are covered !
Thanks for the tip with the SMS !
