I am looking at an 80 series Landcruiser 40th anniversary diesel manual. I could not find how to lock the centre diff for high range off road work. When it was put into low range the centre diff locked automatically and the ABS light came on. (Does this mean the ABS is turned off in low range)
I have owned a 94 petrol version which had an electronic switch on the dash which locked the center diff.
Did Toyota do something different for the newer versions or the diesel versions.

Jamcage,
In the model you are looking at it had a viscos centre diff. The diff could not be locked in high range, and only locked in low range. This system didn't last long as they went back to a locking centre diff in the later model and kept it there in the 100 series.

Have a look at wwwlcool.org/index.html Basicly the wireing is in behind the dash all you need is the switch and plug it in. Can select high with diff lock and disable abs. also can select low without diff lock. cheers paul

You can add a manual diff lock switch and drive without ABS in high range...they left it out so u couldnt sue them for a defective abs system (doing "x"kph and crashing)
