Since purchasing my 40l engel fridge it has twice within 9months been back for repairs the first time just a few weeks after purchase, we did the Simpson desert and thanks to a non functioning fridge lost a good deal of our meat. The fridge is under waranty and was repaired in fact because of a "manufacturing fault a whole new compressor etc was put in, it was done promptly by the local repairer. Just a week ago it has done the same again the compressor is working but not cooling and this time I suggested to Engel (Adelaide) that they replace the fridge I was curtly told I would not expect a Rolls Royce replaced and therefore should not expect my fridge replaced, i was unlucky that I had two breakdowns but thats the breaks to which I replied you therefore build them to break down every nine months then. The local repairers tells me that he had asked engel to tell me the fridge would again be repaired and not replaced but engel have not bothered to contact me.

Seems to me engel are so confident of there good reputation they do not need to bother with keeping past customers happy and whats more dont care. I would suggest that engels are not as good as there reputation and would be interested how many other people experience problems with either the product or the rude customer service personel.

Bought my first Engel in 1985 and it is still going....body is a bit shot but the motor just purrs away and freeezes thge contents. Bought my second Engel in 2001..also no problems. Do not run the fridges all of the time. Never had a problem with an Engel. Just lucky I suppose? Cannot talk about Engel Service have never contacted them !

Sorry to hear about your troubles. We've had 2 engels over 13 years and never had a problem. Only had two of them because we up-sized about 5 years ago. Contacted engel once when we lost a rubber foot off one bottom corner of the fridge and found their service good (well I guess for such a simple problem it would have to be lol). Anyway, hope you get it sorted out soon. I'd have to say honestly that you must have just got a bad fridge. Not much consolation I know but most of our friends and family run engels and have done for many years and none have ever had a problem.

the story i got from Waeco head office in OZ was they are waiting on 240 lids for this model alone????? whats going on!!!

And Engel still waiting on fridge slide straps that wern't in my box and Award caravan mob keep taking my address and number saying it will be in today's post,
Customer service and care factor are a definate thing of the past as far as i am concerned warranty for Waeco is CRAP!!!!!

I have had a 39l since '99 and it works fine. When it is not in the car it is and 240v and working as a beer fridge so the only time it is not turned on is when it is being transferred from car to house and vicy versa. Not sure how, but a plastic tab at the back of the fridge covering a copper pipe was broken about 6 months after I bought it. Rang Engel, explained what was busted and asked if it was ok or needed to be replaced. They told me the name of the local repairer and said to take it in and it would be fixed. Told them that if I could buy the part, I would clip it in myself as it was simple to do (and would save me time and money). Next day a courier package arrived with the part free of charge. Iam happy with the product and service.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, seams to be a common thing with these fridges, and as for customer service well seems to be a thing of the past, i dont want to start an debate on which fridge is best, i will only say i have an Electrolux 3 way it came out of a cub drifter pop up it is close to 30yrs old we took it to a 3 way specialist to have it checked out just to make sure it was ok and the guy at the shop said it was perfect, he even said that the older type were better than the modern fridges of it's type, we were thinking of getting a new one but he said don't stay with what you have it will last another 20yrs no problem. Our preference is 3 way but others like 12v, it's just my opinion. I hope you dont have any further problems.

Baz.

That surprises me, I had a mate who crashed his car and the engel fridge slide let go and the fridge smashed the back window. Within a few days of contacting engel he had a rep come to his house in the big black engel van to have a look at it, can't remeber what happend in the end but they were pretty quick to respond.

I run two engels now, and never a problem. Just let them fix it - since they replace the unit, then there's nothing left except the box anyway.
You've been pretty unlucky.
