I read with interest post 12922 and the debate on who owns Magellan.
Now I don't know a great deal about GPS ( that is why I read the post ) but I do know a thing or two about major overseas companies and their shareholders as I work as a Equity Analyst for a investment company.
1. Magellan was a US company, Thales bought it in 2001.
2. Thales is a French multinational, their largest shareholders being Alcatel, Dassault and the French Government.
3. Fugro, a Dutch multinational bought the Thales Geo Solutions division in late 2003. This division provides survey equipment for the Gas and Oil industry.
4. Thales Navigation which continues to be a wholly owned division of Thales contines to manafacture GPS systems for retail consumers.
Hpoe that clears things up a bit.
Cheers

Thanks Ted,
It is a bit like 'who' owns Argyle Diamonds.
Anyway I have a Magellan GPS and it is a good product which gives me good service. The service from Magellan HQ in
Perth is also exemplarary.
Cheers

I have a sneaking suspicion there may be a "Caledonian" connection with Argyle Diamonds....
