Have just been quoted $1100.00 by the local Toyota to do a 150,000km service which includes a new timing belt..........How much did you pay for your service? (150,000km Landcruiser 100 series)

Shop around. I have my timing belt done every 100,000km. Besides the timing belt I also replace the water pump, and it does not come anywhere near the price you have been quoted. I use Repco for a lot of my stuff because they offer an Australian wide warranty on their repair work, which I think is more than Toyota will offer you.

Have the valve clearances EVER been checked by ANY dealer at previous services?
If not they may require a check to ensure the clearances haven't closed up since they were last assumed to be OK and not checked by someone who should check.
Is that in the $1100??? Should be.

You don't want to get to 200,000km and find (as many 80 series owners have) that the exhaust valves, or inlet valves, are being held open slightly.

It is called preventative maintenance.

Is 4 years since mine was done at 140,000 as it needed something else done so I got all done at once. It cost a bit over $300 for the belt change, $500 to get the tranny flushed and a seal and O ring replaced after an idiot in Adelaide put wrong oil in and pinched the O ring. and If I remember correctly it all came to about $1200 for that plus the 150k service. I remember asking about the valves and they said they were Ok.
On a Cruiser if they rattle they are better than if they dont (so Im told)

Hi Cobber.
I have a 200 Series and after returning to Canberra from WA I had a 90000 km service done. In addition to the standard service I had them replace the front pads which included lightly machining the disks. I also had a cooling system flush and a auto gearbox oil change, not a flush just a drain and refill. Fuel filter was also replaced.
All up cost $1100. An excellent site for all things Landcruiser is They cater for all models of Landcruiser and a search may give you some further help.

Hi Cobber,

My last service for the 100 Series cost me $2300 (220,000kms). Included the normal service + timing belt and value inspection/adjustment. Also flushed and replaced the power steering fluid. Service alone was about $1,200 and included bearing repack (front & rear), air and fuel filter replacement, oil etc. I have a 1HZ motor and the timing belt replacement is pretty straight forward ($90 for belt + $120 labour) though I believe the T/D engine variant is more difficult and they often replace the water pump at the same time while they've got the cover and belt out of the way. Been told that timing belt (+water pump) in this situation is somewhere around $700-800.

I suggest you ask what you're getting for the service (or check service book) and confirm the work to be done. I've had Ultratune do some of the servicing in the past and they're generally a couple of hundred dollars cheaper for a book service but they can't do the value adjustment. Labour for value inspection alone was $400 + shims @ about $20 each.

Not cheap to run a 4WD sometimes. Hope this helps.
