Taking the short cut to
Derby via the Buchanan. Just realised we can make an even better short cut by taking the Buntine and Duncan. Any been on these recently and can tell us what conditions are like, also overnight stops.

A few months ago (may) we travelled Buchanan to Top Springs and then down the Buntine and Duncan hwy to
Halls Creek.
Buchanan was OK but quite dusty. There are pullovers but you need to get away out of the dust. Top Springs to Wave
Hill is bitumen. Few
places to pull off the road and dust is not a problem (bitumen)
Past Wave
Hill the road was in fantastic condition and we camped at Morella
Gorge. The road was not bad but was rougher from about 50km out of
Halls Creek. There is also
Sawtooth Gorge for camping on the way.
Fuel at Wave
Hill (Kalkarindji) was cheaper than Top Springs and the country through this part of Australia was most interesting
