You could use a Bluetooth OBDII Reader with Torque App on your smart Phone. I have used one for a few years and only use it once in a while. I did plug it in to a fellas vehicle who had gone into limp mode on the roadside once and cleared his codes. Worked at the time, don't know if he got far after I left him??

Tim
The 100 series diesel (I have a 1HDFTE) uses a different protocol. It is M-OBD (multiplexed) not standard OBDII. I wasted $100+ dollars buying a Maxiscan JP701 after confirming with the seller that it would work on my vehicle, it does not, trying to get a refund at present. If you search LCOOL you will find lots of info.
cheers

I have seen the the above pk rangers posts plug in Actron scangauge clear a ford
ranger fault that went into limp mode, it actually tells you what the error is from its stored data so you dont have to look up the code and appears to be quiet good in quality.I ordered this cheapy to clear a code on a petrol vehicle after one coil failed . According to the details should work on any OBD2 will let you know how it goes

Not sure if
mine would operate on most Australian vehicles, but I use a Edge CTS on my Chev Silverado. It gives me more info than I could ever hope to need; even including things such as the 8 individual injector balance rates, intake temp, exhaust gas temp pre and post turbo, torque output, power output, roll and pitch info etc etc.

Does the Chev have pre and post thermocouples so it can tell the EGT's either side? Haven't heard of a vehicle which has both. Most don't even have one!

Ross,
No...I had to drill and tap a hole in one manifold for the pre-turbo thermocouple. Would've been great if it had already had it!
