Hi, We are planning on travelling to Cameron Corner from Adelaide next month and we are looking for a free camp along the Highway before Broken Hill. I see there is Thackaringa Free camp but is a bit close to the road for us. We do like to camp away from main highways. Does anyone know of a free camp around the area? We don't want to go into Broken Hill to the CP's so would appreciate posts regarding free camping only. TIA

We are leaving next month and heading that way too! I have done endless research and it seems there's not a whole lot on offer nearby. I've also found a lot of people mention a lot of theft especially in the caravan parks so be careful and lock up at ALL times!!

I've heard the showground is alright and approx. $25.

I've also looked on wiki camps and other sites and found there are a few free camps around an hour or so out of broken hill.

I've just been looking through Places in that area using the EOTopo base map to see what is off the highway. You can see numerous tracks heading off into quarry areas south of the highway so I would bet you'll find a spot to pull over the night if you go for a little exploring.

When doing anything more than passing through BH we camp out at Silverton, c. 25 kms out, at the pleasant semi-bush campground there. There's a fee but it's worth it IMO.

Thanks all. Looks like somewhere around Cockburn might be the go for us.

Cockburn has a "caravan park". It's listed in the Wiki app. $18 a night with power and you pay and get the key at the pub. I haven't stayed there myself.
