Hi everyone,
We would like to spend a few weeks travelling from Katherine to Nhulunbuy and back in June next year. I've got all the info about permits etc, but having trouble finding comprehensive current info on the road condition, in particular the river crossings. Does anyone know if there is a current travel guide with this info? We have a 2002 Pajero nm, standard except will have snorkel, and all terrains. will the pajero handle the road ok? Will there be clearance issues?
Really appreciate any current info available.
Thanks so much.

Drive to the conditions and the Paj will do it easily.

I believe you are only allowed to spend one night on the way in & the same on the way out.
I did it a few months ago & the road was generally quite good with easy shallow river crossings.

There are not a lot of places to camp along the way and you are allowed to camp one night only as you travel toward Nhulunbuy. Be careful and only camp where they tell you because it can be dangerous otherwise. The day we went in we were going to do it in one hit but a mechanical issue made us set up camp in an undesignated spot and at around 11pm we had bullets ripping through our camp until we showed a light then it stopped. It was like being under attack. Anyway the blacks were shooting buffalo and didn't know we were in the area. That's why they give travellers a proper spot to camp along the way.

All rivers have bridges. Easy drive in 1 day. Extended camping definitely a no-no. You are not allowed off the main road.
