If your box is compatible, then you need to buy a new Remote Control and do an update to the box firmware and connect an external hard drive or large USB stick..

Give vast a call, or talk to a dealer. Or do what I did and buy an integrated Vast TV that has the Vast Receiver built in to the TV along with the ability to record. But you do need an external hard drive.

Either way you can only record one channel and you can't watch another whilst recording.

I just looked at one on Ebay and it has the usual audio and video RCA outputs, plus they say it is a PVR. A PVR (Personal Video Recorder) can record.

What model set top box do you have? Then we can see what you need.

I've got Vast at home and just plugged an old hard drive in and it works fine. I had to format the H/D but it was easily explained in the Vast manual, I assume the mobile (caravan) type Vast boxes would be very similar. As mentioned above you need the remote if it didn't come with one and can you only record one channel at a time.

To clarify that, you can't watch one channel and record another unless you have a twin tuner VAST box.

Dont know if you still need this info, but it depends on the box you have, the Satking will record without mods to a usb or portable hard drive (powered)
The UEC will require a remote and scratch card/code and then will record to a powered portable hard drive.
By powered I mean 240volt - so it plugs into the wall.
Some unpowered hard drives will work but not all, and they may not be reliable.

Also the Hard drive must be less than 2 gig and partitioned to just one gig, I also note that the newer seagate drives at 2gb don't work.
Also as they said you can only record what you are watching or record something while you are away, without a twin tuner.

Cheers
