Review: Googs Track

My Place Rating: My Rating 5/5

Today we completed Googs Track from North to South. It was a really enjoyable trip. Mount Finke an amazing rounded hill rising well above the surrounding marvellous dune scaped countryside. The dunes were a real joy in our 100 Series Landcruiser and with tire pressure down to 20 psi we had no problems at all crushing slowly and carefully up the dunes to avoid anyone speeding up the other side and meeting head on at the crest! Vehicles travelling in "recommended" South to North direction will find it a lot harder and track is clearly not really suitable for Subaru or smaller 4 wheel drive vehicles. Passed one group of six vehicles towing trailers northwards and a Prado had broken its axle after getting bogged - seems like slow and steady in a more robust 4 wheel drive vehicle is the way to go. The dune country is magnificent, wild flowers look terrific, many lovely camp sites and to finish it off Googs Lake is really picturesque. This a wonderful place and thanks to the the national parks people who are looking after it so well. Finally a very grateful thanks to Goog and son Denny for opening up this beautiful wilderness place to us all.
