I use an ASUS EEEPC slate and did have windows 7. Ozi worked perfectly using a USB GPS puck (BU-353). After I upgraded to Windows 10 Ozi cannot find the GPS. I have used the GPS port checker and no COM ports can be found. I have 2 USB slots, one uses a mouse which works perfectly, I have tried swapping ports with no result. I have also tried running Ozi in Windows 7 mode (in properties the option is there). Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did the GPS port come with an installation disk? If so then give it a go.

It could also be a compatability thing and the GPS is not supported under Windows 10.

If no CD/DVD then try searching the web for a driver for the GPS.

Luckily we do not believe in upgrading. And will resist as long as the PC works.

Thanks Phil, I uninstalled the device and re-installed it, I also got the latest drivers from Prolific (the device maker). Funny tho, if I plug it into one port Device manager indicates it is in Com3, when I put it into the other port device manager says it is com4, but using these settings does not enable communication. You are right not to upgrade. By the time I found this error I the time frame in which to go back to Win7 had expired, the only way to return to Win7 now is to rebuild the tablet.

Can't help beyond that mate.

Did you think of asking Oziexplorer themselves? I have found them very helpful in the past. You never know there may be a fix required or they may have come across this before. Can't help to call them.

Don't let some people put you off asking them. Someone had trouble with them but myself - all good. May have been the approach they used. I don't know.

There are windows 8 drivers available hereUSB GPS B353 Drivers

They may work in windows 10? Probably a better chance than the Win 7 drivers anyhow.

If you haven't had windows 10 for a month you can go back to windows 7,there is the info to do this on one of the options in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. That's what I did.

Unfortunately too late to go back as I didn't identify this problem in time.

It has been solved now. Uninstall the device and remove the drivers. Reinstall the device but opt to select the driver yourself. Download the Win7 driver and use that, then tell Windows not to update any drivers. I am back in business now. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Glad to hear you resolved it. It is unwise to upgrade Windows at any time without understanding possible implications. This has always been the case. In 10's case mostly good things so far but drivers are the biggest issue when going from one version to another despite Microsoft trying to alleviate this problem.

A quick word of advice to forum users, computer workshops are full of broken windows 10 computers so do not upgrade yet. Our techs reckon Microsoft should be sued over it as so many people have been bitten by the cost of getting their computers running again.

Again!!! Not surprising. Not one single version of Windows has ever been properly released. They use their "customers" to test. Of this I am positive. It began with Win 3 and we ended up with Win 3.11 and so on to Win 10. I truly believe that if they had fixed B bloody Gate's dos and sys files first like Apple did then we would have a "much better world" to use an old phrase.

I solved all this for my own S/W as I embeded a personally rewritten interface sub-package (not a complete io unfortunately) which replaced all Windows functions, in my S/W. Smartlog (totally mine) still ran happily, regardless of the windows version, until Win 8 without a change since 1983. Why can't Microsoft do it. Ahhhh there's the rub THE COST. So we "work" for them and do their testing and don't upgrade until absolutely necessary. Still using XP on the old lan network file server.

What a wonderful world it is!!!!

The BU-353 will not work with Win 8 or Win 10.
You will need to replace it with BU-353S4 GPS mouse.

He has it up and running Chris. I also tried windows 10 and quickly reverted back to 7. 10 is just not worth the effort.

I must be lucky, can't get Win10 to install on any of my devices. Think I will give it a miss for a while.

Tried the win10 media creation tool. Downloaded it and it will not run. Running 64 bit win7 Pro. The 32 bit tool starts, but doesn't want to play with a 64 bit system. I will just give it a miss until Microsoft get their act together. A lot of people are having the same error code as I am and tech forum just gives strange solutions that do not work.

Sometimes you have to right click and "Run as Administrator" to get these programs to work. I have to do that with everything on my Win 7 machine

Have upraded to Win 10 and reverted back to Win 8 on my Lappy as I just didnt like it and cant be bothered learning for the amount of time I use that machine.

Hi...also make sure you are using latest version of Ozi...it has windows 10/(internal?) gps fix (released a week or so ago) May or may not solve problem...just notice there is no mention of what Ozi version is being used in this thread..always first thing to start with....otherwise we could be discussing someting that has already been solved.

Cheers
Greg

Hi Greg, I just checked and my Ozi is the latest version. Their website indicates some driver problems may exist for some GPS's.
