I agree with you Brian. Please David could you bring back old look?
I feel like stroll thru Coles or Woolworth after they pinch part of aisle
and plant it somewhere where I just can't find it.
Why would you change something that worked for so many years?

I suspect this is a bit like a car company introducing a new model car – some will like the new style and look; for others it will grow on others them; and there will be those who can’t find any positives but will still "drive" it none-the-less because the brand is “tried and tested”.

And like a new car, improvements "under the bonnet" are not readily visible and I suspect this is the case with the new site format...at least reading the post from Michelle @ ExplorOz in regard to the way it is delivered.

For sure, some forums are different in the way they are presented, but the ExplorOz format doesn’t seem to deter posters and for my money is the best site for information on travelling Australia, bearing in mind, the site is not just a “forum”, but an inter-active travel site…

Agree with the others, it is not what I am used to and very similar to another site that I use to belong to and no longer do as it became to difficult for me to navigate around, I hope you don't make it to difficult for us old timers to use in the future, where is the spell check or are we not incorporating that into the site anymore.
I'll let you know the outcome in a couple of months after driving it for a while

Well,I really like the new format and have only spent a couple of short periods looking around so far. It looks great and works well for me on my laptop.Seems to be more responsive. I haven't had any issues navigating my way around either. Haven't tried it on my phone yet but don't envisage any problems. I will have to get busy and write up some blogs from our recent trip to WA which I have been very slack in getting done, and see how that works. Thanks for all the hard work David.

I think the forums new format is really good. It makes finding new posts very quick. A popular post can have 20 plus replies and with this new format getting to the new posts is very easy. Before you had to scroll through many pages. David you have done a great job. Yesterday I was using my laptop, Today, I am using my smartphone and the changes make a lot of sense and are a vast improvement. To the dinosaurs out there I am 70 and realised long ago that the world is going to constantly change and we need to encourage and embrace change and so reap its benefits. I rarely used my phone on this site in the past but now I can see that I will probably use my phone a lot of the time, very convenient.

I'll be using an Android tablet, not a phone, but ditto to all of Chris's other remarks. With the couple of tweaks already done in response to user input, and with a bit of use, I find it considerably better than the old format.

Well done David!

Like the old saying ...you can't please every one, I think after a while it will grow on you.. a bit like a new song on the charts, sometimes they take a while then all of a sudden you mutter... hey that's not bad after all...Thanks David.

Initial response to the forum was shock (until I found the expand all button) but no doubt I'll get used to it. One thing I don't like at all is the font and font size. Reduces readability significantly imo.

What device are you using? One the desktop system it is massive the on various devices it changes based on available screen size - but let me know what you are looking at firstly?

this new format may grow on me but maybe i'm to old to learn new tricks , it's a little to hard to read all relevant answers , it also enables me to filter some answers .

I think this is a vast improvement over the old system which was really showing its age in a mobile environment. Much prefer the closed replies too, particularly when I'm using my phone. Perhaps I've missed a catch-up post but I'm mystified by the references to a lack of spellcheck as it is certainly working for me.
Anyway, the new look is great and is working fine on my phone (Nexus 5) and two tablets (Nexus 7 and iPad Mini).

Fuego,

Some browsers have a built-in spellcheck, some don't. Maybe you're seeing the one built in to your browser?

There used to be a spell check function on the site, but it's gone with the new format.

Frank,

Well, I guess that must be the explanation. I've used both Internet Explorer 11 and Chrome under the new site format and had my dodgy spelling corrected each time. The blokes who are complaining may be using earlier browsers, particularly ie, without an inbuilt spellcheck.

On my iPad iPhone and Samsung android tab the spell check works fine.

The expand all or just expand new responses works well and I am sure over the next few days the team will tweak the new site to fix any niggles people may have.

Well done to the exploroz team, I find the new site easier and faster to read than before, it loads pages quicker and just seems smoother overall.

Well done David and Michelle

Cheers
Mike

I may be wrong, but my admittedly weak and failing memory tells me that there used to be a spell check button on the old site and it's not there now.

Sometimes a weak and failing memory makes things up!!!!! So I'm not sure.

Four of my browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera, Chrome) do spel checcing on the run - this one (Chrome) picked up that deliberate error. The fourth (Slimbrowser) lets it through unchallenged, as do the native browsers in my android tablet and phone.

This leads me to believe that the spell checking you guys are experiencing comes from within your browsers, not from the site.

Cheers

Frank,

You are correct - there is no EO provided spell checker system in the new system at this stage. I have some major issues with the older one and being that so many browsers do support in-line spelling in forms I decided that it was not really worth the time and effort to re-install the spelling system.

I could be wrong but really this should be one for the browser to manage.
