Hi Happy Campers / Caravanners I need to pick your brains.
Does anyone have any advice on 3 way fridges mine seems to have give up the ghost it isn't even trying to get cold on either 240v mains or gas...I have checked the gas is getting through and igniting and doesn't get cold and when I try it on mains hook up the 240v switch lights up and still doesn't get cold.

The fridge gasses should be well mixed as the last couple of trips out have included corrugated roads up here in Karratha.

I have occasionally fired my generator up whilst the fridge has been on Gas and cant guarantee that I had the 240 v switch turned off and I read in the manual once it stopped working this can cause problems but it didn't state why or what it causes
Any advice / help would be most appreciated as the nearest caravan fridge repairer are in Geraldton

Is there any amonia smell or clouding inside the fridge?

Forgot to add, I can't remember but I think the thermostate is mechanical,
does the thermostate click if you turn it all the way down then all the way up?

We recently had a similar problem, we would always set thermostate at about 2oclock, this was ample to freeze things, suddenly it wouldn't work on either gas or 240v, turned thermostate up higher to about 5/6 oclock and worked fine.
Have since replaced the thermostate.

In earlier times I had two absorbtion type fridges and they both failed when used on rough roads despite having both on a cushioned mounting.
The separating screens in the ammonia tubes both broke off their mounts internally and it could not recombine the gasses/ammonia to enable cooling.
Both were thrown away.

Compressor fridges since.

When I bought my first 3 way electrolux it took me a while to understand how level the fridge must be to work properly.
I literally used a spirit lever to level it each time from then on. Never another problem.

Im not sure if it was specific to that actual fridge or a problem with all electroly 3 way fridges.

Good luck.

Hi Paul,
You may find the attached link worth viewing as it provides an excellent description of 3 way fridge operation and troubleshooting. The link is for the first of a series of videos. that I found most informative.
