Hi Im new on here.
I am from Wickham which is near
Karratha in Western Australia.
I like more information regarding the 4.2lt Diesel. What I am after are the fuel consumption in towing a boat, trailer compared to the 3.0ltr Diesel.
You all might think this is silly but since we live in a remote area and are going to tow a 24ft boat to fish in destinations that are only 4wd only.
I would appreiate the help
thanks

I've just raised a query on similar - lots of discussion on this site recently re 3.0 v 4.2. Most correspondents seem to favour the 3.0 litre. Look at my posting for my fuel consumption figures. Last year we went up to Wickham to visit our son, and toured a bit around the
Pilbara with a "fold up" type caravan - didn't know it was there, and it didn't alter the fuel consumption much at all. It runs beautifully towing the Bushtracker - but did chew up a bit more fuel. You'll recognise my son in his big wheeled Patrol or High Hilux

Hi Pebblez, something to think about is the 3 litre has no power down low so when pulling boat out of water the 3 litre really struggles to get up the ramp, i have the 4.2 and i idle up the ramp in high range pulling a 20 ft boat out the 3 litre will need low range. I get around 14l/100ks towing the boat, also a 6 makes more sense towing around 4 tonne than a 4. Col

G'day,
I have a 2003 4.2 and tow a 16' Jayco expanda. It sits a bit higher than the beast and does make a difference to the fuel when towing. I get about 5km to the litre when towing as opposed to about 6 and a bit normally. I'll be seriously looking at the 3.0 litre when I replace in 3 years or so.
Cheers,
Hilly
