This is fair dinkum. Page 21 Saturdays Adelaide Advertiser.

An award will be made to pander for the power of the pink dollar.....

Contenders are........

Audi AT roadster
Ford Territory
Mazda RX-8
Holden Monaro

How'd ya reckon ya'd feel if you had bought one of these and it won the award!!

Now, before I get flamed.......STOP!! I don't give a toss about preferences, but I do know that the Suzuki 4 x 4, which is quite a capable vehicle, has somehow been lumbered with the "Hairdressers 4 x 4" So........ guys won't really give it all the credit it deserves.

Christ, If ya reckon Mitsubishi have got problems....... wait and see what happens down at Ford if the Territory wins, after all, the homosexual population is probably around 0.0005% of the total population........ that's not a lot of cars to pin your hopes on, at the risk of turning normal buyers away.

Just my 2 cents worth.

The Jeep Wrangler would have to be top 2 without fail.

The Wrangler is a damn capable off roader right out of the show room. What is gay about that?

I could live with that. What could be scary is if you went up bush somewhere, and a convoy of Ford Territory's rock up..........Playing ABBA!!!

Do we need a term like "stool packer" on this forum. I think not. In fact the whole topic of the thread is somewhat offensive. I would have thought making ascertions about peoples choice of vehicle based on their sexuality, or vice versa, is totally uncalled for.

Gee, Truckster......... glad I didn't say that........

As far as the vein of the thread is concerned........ think about this............
It is actually the Gay community themselves making the vote........ not me or anyone else on the forum......... go figure.

I think the Nissan Navara is right up there - sorry Navaraman. Actually I noticed the very nice man at the local antique store had a Prado.

Nothing wrong with the new Mini - quick, punchy and sticks like "s**t to a blanket. It ain't a 4WD but its a heap of fun to thrash around town. If I wasn't a 4WD nut, I'd buy a Mini Cooper Works "S", supercharger 'n all.

There are better cars out there for $50,000 than a Mini.

Agree about the mini's dynamics. But we're talking about pink dollars here.

I guy at work picks up his new Monte Carlo edition Cooper S on Wednesday and he has already been labelled by the other guys.

I have to agree with Truckster though, there's much better choices for $50k.

Truckster,
given that the Mini is listed at from $32,000 to $39,000 it is hardly a surprise.

Don't worry, its all a hoax. Once THE BLOCK finishes the "beefed up Rav 4" will win hands down. Well it should with all the money T are throwing at it.

If a couple of girls rocked up at my campsite in a Ford Territory (or whatever wins or "loses") I don't think I'd asked them to leave.

Quote " If you label things as pink or gay now you're deliberately trying to exploit the opproituity, the pink dollar, which passe too. Five or 10 years ago eveybody was chasing the pink dollar. The whole thing is beyond that now. We track acceptability of gays in Australia here and it's very high." David Chalke, social researcher, The Age May 23, 2004.

Well you may laugh, call them names and take the p*** out of those that "march to the beat of a different drum", but the greens, the pinks, the tree huggers etc., and other minority groups with big mouths, have more say about what you can and can't do, or when you can drive your 4by in your spare time than you have!

They know how to get the lily livered gutless bast**ds called politicians to do what they want and restrict access to wilderness areas or parks and beaches, or bring ever increasing legistlation to bear on licensed gun owners!

Don't worry about putting labels on a vehicle that's different to the macho machine you drive, worry more about the power some groups have to restrict you to doing only what they want, where and when they allow you to do it!

yep totally agree with navaraman and camper...I always find it bemusing that those who are most vocal about the need for other people to accept and respect their choices in life (such as driving a 4WD or fitting bizarre water carriers to your car), don't in turn accept and respect other people's choices in life. Discrimination of any kind doesn't have a place on a public forum such as this and I'm surprised David condones it. I also find it rather ironic that someone who drives a HRV is bring up the issue of effeminate vehicles!

btw 'Lone wolf', you're kidding yourself if you think 'the homosexual population is probably around 0.0005% of the total population' - try 5,000-20,000 times that figure (i.e. 2.5-10%) depending on where you live...

Mmmmmmm......

Things Ian must do......

1) Read Advertiser Newspaper which has circulation of around 300.000, and see how many people wrote in about above story....... wow.......none!!! Perhaps the whole of South Australia never read the article.

All I did was simply give you what was in the paper, no slant, no spin.

2) Arithmetic...... 2.5% of population = 500,000. So, whichever manufacturer gets the vote, they are laughing all the way to the bank.......

3) Ignore comments personally directed at me, cause I don't care. You wanna see what my kids call me......

4) Apologise to everyone for bringing this up on the forum. Simply, I f......ed up. I am very sorry, and there was never any malice intended. If I am to enjoy using this forum, the LAST thing I wish to do is make enenies.

So.......Navaraman, Pathfinder & camper and any others out there who were offended, I am sorry, please accept my apologies on this matter.

Sincerely

Ian BEE
