Here's a dumb question that I am sure has an intelligent answer.

I have been kindly given by a fellow forumite a Kaymar rear light to fit to my Kaymar twin rear wheel carrier.

I can fit it to the left tyre holder or the right one both have the mounts avaliable.

Any ideas which one would be better ? and for what reason.

I have scratched my head about this and can't work out which side is better.

Would appreciate your comments.

Regards
John

Hi John,

Not sure what vehicle its fitted to, but if barn doors (Nissan, standard toyotas etc...) fit it to the larger door as that way you can still get into the back of your vehicle without turning the light away from pointing behind the car.

When i open my large door, the light is restricted to basically the drivers side of the car with little light directly behind.

However, if on a horizontal tail gate, may be better on passengers side as you can then direct light on what is typically the verge side of the road when stopped.

Cheers

Captain

Hi Captain
Thanks for the reply.
It's a Troopy, so barn doors, good point about the larger door, it is used less than the smaller so as you say would retain some light in the area directly behind the vehicle, great point thanks.

John

I have mine on the LHS as I use it to light the side more than the rear. When I pull off the side of the road to camp, then I put the tent so the car is between it and the road. Therefore I want to light the LHS of the vehicle (by swinging the wheel carrier to the left). Also caravan doors are that side if towing one of them. That's the side you use the most - as opposed to lighting the road!

Seeing as you have twin spares on the Troopie why not buy another Kaymar light and fit it as well. Then you won't have this vexing question to consider!!! Mmmmmmmm......... maybe you should fit a second winch as well and another two spotties and twin laptops and..................hahahahaha

Kindest regards

Hi Willem
Thanks for that comment, It's a real good idea as I don't have enough crap to carry now and one more of everything would be just dandy.

This light was given to me by a very kind gentleman ( I know others on here have said different of him) I might be pushing my luck to ask if he happens to have another spare light in his garage. LOL.

Also the other problem besides weight and space with your suggestion is the simple fact that my ship has not come in yet, so cost is always an issue. Poor bloke that I am.

Take care.

Kind Regards
John

Sorry Willem forgot to add that I noticed you still have not added your electric toothbrush to your vehicle's equipment list.

Of course the phone works, I wouldn't sell you a bodgie.
I had it in the Toyota Landcrusier club newsletter which only just came out and have had 16 genuine calls about it from as far away as the NT.
I think I sold it to cheap. LOL.

Actually I think my ship sunk and it's to deep for even me.

As for Nitros garage stand in line.

Drivers side would be good, helps you when reversing..

Lights on the back of the car has to be wired into the reversing lights to be legal.

Good point Truckster, As for wiring to reverisng lights etc.

Nah ! I don't think so, I am going to wire it to switch up on the dash so I can turn it on if I need more light for reversing or whatever so if the cops want to make an issue about it then I will tell them it does not work.

By the way happy Birthday for the other day.
Did you get a new Toyota by any chance, we still need one to come back our way since Nitro Eric defected to the other side.

Regards
John

Blokes,
I've got the 2 little wuzzy spots on the back of my roof rack wired up to a on/on (SPDT) switch. When it's it's in it's normal position, the lights come on when I select reverse. When I throw the switch, the lights come on as well as a small green flashing LED to let me know they're on.
I have also used them for high-beam dipsticks behind me; but I'm always just a bit worried in case the driver of that car happens to be a member of the constabulary!!!!

Cheers,

Young bloke back home many yrs ago, setup 2 spotties behind the grill of his dads car, with blue and red that crinkly plastic rapping stuff, and a flasher can so they would flash.. He then went and terrorised the shagging strip up the point, until he pulled over some undercover cops lookin for him..

Good one Bruce, nice little unit.
By the way the Kaymar one sells for anything between $180 to $220 depending on where you get it from.

Yea you would have to have manure for brains to pay $200 for a $2 piece of pipe with 2 tabs welded to it, and a $20 spotty on the top of it!

this works well!
