G'day all, with the 60lt engel fridge, is the open fridge/freezer better than the combi fridge/freezer with the fixed divider? What do you think? thanks, hoo roo

Personally, we have the open one. Very efficient, but we mostly use it as a fridge.
When used as a freezer the compressor still doesn't work that hard.
Don't think the Combo would suit us.
I believe it's just a fan that controls the fridge/freezer section temperature.
There's a thread about it here.
Engel 40 Vs 57 Vs 60.
Cheers

Hi aussiedingo
Remember, that the combi fridge/freezer with the fixed divider is of the same physical size, but t is only a 57L.
But different people have different needs.

I have had the 57L Combi for 10 - 12 years so far, and love it! The convenience of having frozen meat and chilled milk etc suits us. On fishing trips once we get a few fillets we remove the freezer lid and crank it up to have the whole thing as a freezer... For a few cool drinks just block off the holes to the fridge section, turn the dial down, and use the freezer as a fridge....

I use 2 engel fridges A 21 litre for frozen foods and a 45 litre for the daily use.
Best most efficient combo I have experienced .

I find the larger unit a bit difficult to handle. Size of the unit and my age are the biggest issues. Mate added a second zone thingy to his 40 litre and has a 50mm styrofoam shelf about 2/3 up the evaporator plate. Stuff below the styrofoam stays just below freezing at a pretty low setting. Turn up the cold a bit for ice in the drinks. Just another idea to help your decision.
