Driving Lights

If you plan to do any night driving in the outback then a strong reliable light source is a must. Bad weather, night driving and the possibility of stray animals all demand the need for a clear view

Have read through the past threads on LED Light Bars however I think a lot has changed. Anyone an expert out there? I'm seeing so many different types, new led technology. Also any advice on the brands?

It's a bit of lottery as far as quality is concerned if you're going to buy an el-cheapo unit. They do tend to have poor sealing against moisture ingress/condensation.

Having said that, I have a 180w 4-row bar to supplement my Fyrlyt 150s, as the LED bar gives a good spread but not much long distance range. So far this ebay item is working okay and hasn't had any moisture inside.

The likes of Lightforce's LED range is just way too expensive in my opinion and I'm happy to put-up with a few moisture droplets when I am paying around $100- instead of $400-+ for a similar light output.

Buying a "brand " name doesn't guarantee quality, seeing as nearly all are made in China.

I also don't think a lot has changed ! As always, look for lumen output rather than fancy names for the different globes.

In a led bar, I personally would go for more spot rather than spread because even the spot ones still have reasonable spread AND will penetrate as well.

What Gronk said about quality, Terra.

Mob I work for were buying 40" light bars from Snake Racing at about $1200 per unit, for their prime movers. Pretty good, but a number of them got moisture in them, and some had LED's fail in different areas of the bar. Was suggested it was too much vibration in the long bars. They now use Peak Explorer lights, led and only a bit over 6" in diameter.
