Hi
Need advice on the reliability of the 92 Prado Turbo Diesel. Are there any known faults with this model.
Regards
JD

I can only assume you mean 2002 not 92' as there were no TD engines in Prados in 92, in fact I don't think there were even prados in 92'.
Prado TD's are very good units, the auto box and 1kz-TE motor have been used around the world for over 10 years, even though it is realativly new in Oz. There is a comon glitch apparently with the Prado TD-Auto's with the gear box sticking in a higher gear when cold first thing in the morning, but I don't think this effects all, just a few.
Owners of the prado's will be able to let you know more.
If I had the dosh a prado TD auto would be my choice of 4by. I have the "poor mans" prado at the mo. A 1kz-te 3.0L TD Surf. Very quiet diesels, sound like petrols when you drive them, gear boxs are smooth and responsive, oodles of power. IFS offers you a great ride on the tar too.

This has been posted on a number of different forums , and the assumption is , he is referring to a
Grey Import unit.

They didn't arrive here until 96 - I assumed they must have only got the diagrams from Mitsubishi sometime during 95 ;-)

It will be a 70 series Prado
grey import - 2.4 TD engine which has major cylinder head problems - I wouldn't touch it.
