Looking for advice from those that have boated the area at this time of year and can advise good spots to
camp near good boating areas for family fishing. Have
campsite booked at
Peaceful Bay for next week then looking for options from 2nd January onwards. Bit concerned where we can go. Have done some general googling for fishing/boating info in the region but getting very mixed ideas of what to expect. Friends have planned for us to go with them to Fitzgerald NP but don't know if that's going to be suitable?

Please wear your life jackets..
soo many stories on the news about people losing their life and simple fact is they all werent wearing a life jacket.
these days they make some very comfortable ones to wear and self inflatable.
And be safe on the water

Thankyou for your concern. Yes we have self inflating life jackets and wear them. Plus have epirb etc on board. 5.5m inboard mercruiser aluminium bowrider. Better suited for kneeboarding or trolling a line in calm waters or running with gentle swell. But on good days is perfect at
Ningaloo (offshore).

Hi Michelle,
Depending on size of boat and skipper experience, would it be possible to stay where you are and launch at P/Bay and head out toward Chatham Island (west of Walpole), perhaps even launch at Walpole, a bit closer, for the same destination. This should offer up the usual Snapper, Dhuies, Bald Chin and of course the possibility of Shark of various specie and size.
If you want to stay inside, both Walpole and Nornalup Inlets (joined together) would offer safe fishing ()KG's etc, possibly Flathead and flounder.
Sorry I can't help with Fitzgerald area though, never fished there.
Disco.

Walpole/Nornalup Inlets are open to open ocean with reasonable safety.

If around Fitzgerald np, Hamersley inlet/river looked very fishy.. Also
Stokes inlet, although bit further east.. Don't know what size vessel you have, but have seen a couple launch an inflatable off
the beach at
banksia camp, near Walpole, Chatham island directly out the front.. The local shire at
Hopetoun have done heaps of work on
camp grounds, east side of Fitzgerald np, looked really nice.. Happy sailing... Cheers

Hi Michelle, had an idea it was you for some reason.. Just wanted to add, really
nice camp area at
Hamersley inlet, all sealed, with
boat ramp at your feet.. Not much in the way of grassed areas for kids, but sites were terraced, and
well set out.. This was one that has been done up.. Great drive into
quoin head too, back down the road in Fitzgerald np... Good view on google earth.. Have a great time.. Hope you all had a merry Christmas too, I'm still bloated! Ha .. Ha... Cheers Odog
