Swampy, is this the comparison you're looking for? This is the online summary of the comparison, if you want the entire article, you'll have to find a copy of the print version.

4x4 Magazine - Fridge comparison

Cheers, Ron.

Hi Ron
thanks for the link all be it a brief version.
From what I can briefly deduct although the fridge test was good ,but not a huge selection .
This is where i will have to obtain a hard copy to verify .
Interesting how the "minor " brands are closing the gap in performance to the "Holden and Ford"" devotees. [sounds similar to the Honda / Yamaha vs the world gene debate ]

Would like to see the Trailblaza fridges made by Norcoast in Caloundra tested just for comparison for electricity usage in a 40 + degree situation. Used by the military and other organisations overseas.

Nick

I agree with you. I have a Trailblaza fridge. It is now about 15 years old and hasn't missed a beat.
They are extremely rugged in construction. I regularly use mine in 40+ degrees and it works well.
For some reason although used by the UN and Australian military they do not get tested in magazine issues. It seems that the magazines do the tests on products they receive advertising dollars from.
Life's great and it just keeps getting better

According to a fridge manufacturer I spoke with they all get invited to submit their product for the test surveys
A number of them decline. I guess if you already have a good reputation built up over the years there is no point risking ruining it in a magazine comparison

As usual they don't compare apples with apples. The two fridge/freezers - evakool and national Luna had to run empty freezers against fridge only models and still did OK. In reality you remove the divider insulation from the evakool and run it as a fridge because of its flexible setup. It would have belted the opposition. That was one of the reasons I believe they didn't submit for the latest test.

I hope that all noticed that a retraction was printed in one of the latest issues of 4X4 magazines which showed the Engel power usage to be one of the best ,rather than the worst. AFAIR second only to Waeco.

There was apparently a problem with their test procedure.
Even when it was published at first I found 40AH per day to be unbelievable.

Swampy

I have just opened one of those double free magazines with eight free CD's and really good Recovery Strap and...

...It has the 2015 FRIDGE COMPARO. "Six leading players head-to-head in over 500 Hours of Gruelling Testing".

It is in the "4WD Action Accessoeries Byuers Guide 2".

It looks at the following units:

Road Tech Marine - Powertech 50L
Primus 45L Mammoth
Engel 40L Platinum
Ironman 4x4 Icecube 50L
ARB 47L
WAECO CFX -50

I will have to scan it and post it when I get home from work.

Hopefully this is the one you were looking for.

Cheers

Anthony

HI swampy

My Apple and Bananna dont like talking to one another so i havent been able to load the scanned article. I will try again tonight otherwise, I will take a photo of the article and post it.

I picked it up from a Service Station while waiting to pay for fuel - so I dont know when it was even printed.

Cheers
