Hi all ,wondering if someone could help with a problem we have with our 100 series landcruiser , live axle 4.5 petrol and today I was turning around in our yard and I couldn't turn right . Turned the wheel completely to the left then back to the right and would not turn past straight ahead, any clues? Thanks

Busted CV, unless you have adjusted your steering box too tight recently

Do they have a steering damper on them? (i assume so)...i squashed one years ago on my Hilux and had the same problem, nearly hit a power pole as i turned at an intersection due to that.

Judy and Laurie,

Don't leave home otherwise it's 25,000 km anti-clockwise around the block.

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

That's ok gave us a bit of a laugh , we have done some searching and it looks like it might be the steering box.

jack it up an disconnect the steering from the wheels
check if the wheels turn freely if they do then you have a problem stg box .
if they don,t the problem is in the swivel point bearings

I have an IFS model - I had similar probs before Xmas - found it was a steering rack problem - big dollars around $2000 to fix.

Thank you all, we found it was the steering box, so lucky we had a spare in the shed (as you do) so we changed it last night , will test run it on my way to work today ,

Well there you go, a simple mechanical fix.

And here's me invisaging the vehicle in a previous life, a car pool unit owned by the Labor Party.

(;=))

Kidding of course....LOL

"a problem we have with our 100 series landcruiser , live axle 4.5 petrol"

2 different chassis and steering box/systems. It ain't difficult.

A 105 is a live axle, recirculating ball steering box, a 100 series is independant front suspension and a rack and pinion steering system.
