I know that this probably qualifies as crap, but it does say something about Patrols - sorry - I meant about snatch straps.

Jimny rescues Patrol - haha

In todays 4wd monthly, the Patrol got stuck:

"When DB gave the signal, I gave the Jimny all it was worth and felt the mighty urge of 60kw thrusting the fourby forward....until the strap reached its extension limit, and the Jimny stopped dead in its tracks. I glanced in the rear view mirror, expecting to see the Patrol still stationary, but incredibly it was up and running under its own steam! No doubt about it, the snatch strap is an amazing invention."

(4wd Monthly July 2004 Page 18)

PS - I pees me off that I can have a July 2004 magazine and we haven't even made it to June yet. The casual observer might think it is the current one for the next two and a bit months!!

Andrew,
That mob will do anything to sell a few more mags......
Last month (ie: the JUNE issue !!!!!!!!!......What The?????) they showed the same Jimny snatching a Kenworth and tanker.
Now all we need to do is get the Sunday paper with Saturday night's lotto numbers to be printed on saturday morning and I'll be happy.
Cheers,

Nothing new............I snatched a Toyota HJ45 out of a bog with a Suzuki LJ80 ute, not once but on three occasions. Wasn't using a snatch-strap as we know them today but a platted recovery rope obtained from the dept of defence yard sale up in the north.

The first bog it took four snatches to get the Tojo moving. It is an eerie sensation when the rope gets to the end of the stretch and the other vehicle is still un movable. Suddenly you a propelled backwards at a speed for some metres and off line to boot. At one stage I wondered if I would stretch the Suzi into a twin cab ute:-) There were many more snatches we made during our time in the Top End some of which came unstuck, but I will tell you about that some other time.

Cheers

LOL, Willem I know what you mean, I was trying to pull a tree down on my dads block where they were going to build with my Daihatsu Feroza, had plenty of rope so it would not fall on top of me, we'd dug out all around it, cut as much off it as we could, then gave it a mighty big pull, it almost fell over but didn't. Instead it flung backwards and took me with it! It was like a show ride! Scrared the crap out of me at the time but it was a good laugh afterwards with everyone ok. Gave it one more and it came down.

Why isnt the snatch strap casting a shadow??? - a Fully laden Patrol packed up for some reasonable outback touring, and a straight off the showroom floor Jimny out in the same miles-from-anywhere location??? OK where is the flat top that took the Jimny there, and that wil take it home again!!!!

Hmmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,,,,I dunno about pulling it out of a bog, but a few years back, I once towed my long wheel base Patrol from Fremantle to Safety Bay (about 40 kms) with son's Suzuki Sierra. It didn't like it, it was struggling, but it did the job.
But out of a bog situation is whole different thing.
