Hi all, just a quick couple of questions.. Is this track open or not.. And how rough is it.. Lastly, would it be quicker to head to Gemtree, and head down Pinnicles? Track.. Basicly, want to get from the plenty hwy, to Ruby gap..
Alice Springs tourist centre tell us cattlewater is public track and is open.. I've tried contacting the Harts Range
police station, but no answer.. Have read that the
police closed cattlewater, due to the amount of recoveries needed. Have also heard the farmer fenced it off, was another reason it has been closed.. Hema map says it's closed??? Anyone shed any light on this for us? Thanks guys/gals.. cheers Odog

I reckon your best bet is to go for a drive and let us all know.
If it's closed it should be obvious and the detour through Harts Range or Gemtree wouldn't be too far out of the way. It's all in the same general area.

2-3 years ago it was closed. No idea of current state.

Thanks Steve and Rosco, just conflicting reports, either way we go doesn't really matter, end result will be the same, think turning off near Gemtree maybe a better road, and maybe quicker I guess.. Thanks guys.. Cheers

We went through there last year and it was most definitely closed with "Road Closed" signs, this would have saved quite a bit of time off our trip heading from
Trephina Gorge to Jervois /
Hay River Track

G'day Cookie, would you have an idea of travel time from Trephina to Jervois? Just to give us an idea on our schedule.. I rang the
home stead at southern end of
cattlewater pass, she said the farmer at the northern end, has fenced it off.. So defiantly closed.. Thanks for the info.. Cheers Odog

From memory, we left
John Hayes
Rockhole in Trephina around 8am and got to Jervois around midday, road conditions were pretty good. Nice shower at Jervois which we made use of before setting down the
Hay River Track.
cheers

That was going up, think it's the Pinnicles track coming back onto the plenty hwy just east of Gemtree? Is that correct? Cheers

Yes, you do have to go through a
gate which is on Aboriginal Lands and there is no camping along that section
