Hello all. I am going fishing to the Mc Arthur river over Easter. I am not familiar with area and am considering buying a gps which can be used to track my route and give me a paper trail to follow to get me back to camp. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you based in Darwin? If so, go and see Michael at In and Outboard Marine.
Now is the only time you own
Decide now what you will,
Place faith not in tomorrow
For the clock may then be still

Any GPS with track back will do the job and I think most have that feature anyway.

I use a Garmin Rino 650.
A high (I nearly said top end!) quality unit, not cheap but all the features you would require plus a 1-5w. 80ch. UHF
As well as "trak back" you can mark way points plus "man overboard"
The only drawback I find is that frequent re calibration of the electronic compass is required. I do this each morning before leaving camp.
