ExploreOz FuelTrek

Hi Everyone,

A few years back I remember going through Trek notes page for the Simpson Desert where members had added their vehicle and the fuel they used on the crossing. I am planning to go again this year and wanted to find consumption results for similar vehicles, but I can't seem to find the page. I have also signed up for full membership to make sure it wasn't 'hidden' to visitors. I have done a search and can't find any notes or details of it moving either. Can someone shed some light where the page has moved to and where I might find it? Thanks,

Simon

Can't help with the trek notes but we got around 22 L/100 with a heavy 100 series 4.2 TD on both trips. Not towing either.

Thanks Phil,

I did the trip in 2011 in my 80 Series 4.5 petrol/gas but have since upgraded to a 105 Series 4.5 petrol (no gas). I might just have to go with my old figures.

Good to see that you dropped the gas. One son did the same. He found out that there isn't a lot of gas "out there". Pity about the petrol!!

How much has the car changed since the 2011 crossing? If it is about the same weight, then odds are that the figures would be close. If you had plenty of fuel left over after that trip, then that is another plus for the 2011 figures.

Dying to go back. Crossed via the Madigan last year. Solo car, as usual. We didn't see another vehicle in five days.

Cheers

Phil

Actually I have been on here for years, but my paid membership comes and goes when I need something. So are you indicating that the FuelTrek is still on the Trek page?

Simon,

Ok I just looked at the page and can see what you mean. I do know we turned off some of the data a few years back due to people complaining it was not accurate enough as it did not cover every variable (trailers, wind conditions etc). Yes people complained a lot about this. I will have a dig into the system now and let you know what I can find, interesting it looks like there is a problem as the heading is there with no data (this would not be how it should be working)...

Will report back shortly.

Fair dinkum ! If there are any of the complainers still on here, give yourselves an uppercut :)

Thanks for looking into it David. It is disappointing that people complained. I mean, any info is better than no info right? I remember on my last trip it was very useful, because I could analysis which way people when and they vehicles and setup compared to my own to get a reasonable figure. To those that complain it doesn't cover their vehicle or exact conditions, then all the more reason to contribute so the next person can learn from you.

If anyone has the old data I would still be interested to see it.

Simon,

I have recovered this element on the TrekNotes. In fact there were two issues that seemed to have crept in. I have corrected these and reformatted the output to work correctly in our responsive mode site.

We do not have the ability to submit more fuel usage at this point but we could re-instate this if it was wanted by our readers.

Thanks for pointing this out this issue and continuing your membership - believe me it makes a massive difference to us.

I always thought it was a very useful guide.
See that word "guide"!
If people complained that a guide didn't cover every possible scenario, well clearly some are beyond help and should just stay home.
