Hi guys, first time post. I have a caravan that runs a pro vista 12v controller with solar. It has a double battery setup with a battery charger that runs on float. Every time the sun goes down the E5 error comes up. I realise this is the error for no sunlight but I can't use the power in the van even though it is connected to 240v. It cuts off automatically. Any thoughts?

You didn't mention what model you have

The E5 error also indicates high battery voltage, I had the same symptoms with a 3942 in my late model Sprinter caused by the smart alternator in 2013. The manufacturer replaced it with a changed the firmware and it has performed perfectly since then.

The regulator shuts down to protect itself disconnecting the load, in my case it got quite hot as well.

I would suggest switch everything off including the battery charger, then put a load on the battery by turning something on in the van.

If that works turn the charger back on and look at the battery voltage.

Are you using an Inverter connected to the load side of the controller?
