Hi Greendog,
We love Port Douglas! No beach front parks in Port Douglas itself. We have stayed many times at Pandanus. We have liked it there as we are able to walk down to the Main Street from there. However, the last couple of years there have been lot's of back packers there and they usually take over the camp kitchen and are not great at cleaning up after themselves and were quite loud until quite late at the camp kitchen area. Owners of the park had to come and have a word to them. We usually camp up the back of the park which is usually lovely as you have a little rainforest type setting with lots of trees along the boundary. There s another one across the other side of the road and one out of town a bit but have not stayed at either of these, we usually just stay at Pandanus. Has been lovely there without the inconsiderate people!

Hi Greendog,
Have only stayed in one park at Port Douglas, Glen Garry, it,s a Big4 and very nice. People are great and the setting is quite tropical. Short drive to town and attractions but the park is quite and very well run
Cheers Nev,

Wherever you stay, be prepared for midges. Last year we camped at the back of Pandanus and were eaten alive. Also, I doubt that there will be many vacancies at this time of the year. Final comment that while Pandanus is convenient park to beach and shops, mostly longterm stay people 3 mts or so with gleaming huge white vans that get washed every second day! Not very welcoming to 4wd people with off road equipment!

Hi Pete

Not long now before you head off by the sounds of it.

Not in Port Douglas, but right on the beach and just north of Cairns is Ellis Beach. Its a very popular park and looks fantastic. I have never stayed there by friends of ours go up there every year for 3 weeks.

I personally not a great fan of Port Douglas, far too commercialised from when we first visited the place nearly 40 years ago, and you would be better to stay in Cairns, where you have everything at your finger tips.

Have a great time and do not forget to do the Kuranda train and skyrail trip, that is a must.

Just my thoughts.

Cheers

Stephen
