Can't speak for the conditions right now, but we did the Great Central and Plenty last year in July, and it was a piece of cake - good gravel all the way, and just a few corrugations at the eastern end of the Great Central.
No shortage of good free camp spots.

G'day Teago,

we haven't driven the Sandover for a couple of years but for me it was possibly the worst road I have driven on.
Corrugations weren't too bad but we seemed to be fighting a sandy top for hours.
I'm not sure how often the grade it.
If you're not in a hurry you could give it a go.

Did the Sandover Highway in June last year.

Make sure you have sufficient fuel as the Roadhouse at Ariparra is unreliable.

You will love the track from Lake Nash to Camooweal - bit like driving on the "moonscape " - 2 wheel track and nor a tree in sight !

Simply a great adventure

We went across the Plenty to Yulara in 2011, and back up the Sand over to Camooweal. The Plenty was generally good, but Sandover was much better, with little use. Unreal corrugations near Alparra Store.

We went up past Austral Downs and hit the Barkly near Kiama Ck.
