Just saw the news report. Teachers threatened by locals. Can anyone up that way fill us in on exactly which part of the Cape this happened in and whether there are any implications for tourists nearby? Heading up soon and not too keen on wandering in to a dust up!

To give you a quick location, its on the coast south of Weipa. Well off the tourist route.

I hope they took the Nurses as well. There is no excuse for threatening the people of today who are trying to help in a situation which they did not create.
.
Bored youth are a problem everywhere.

If a fight breaks out , as it did the night we stayed at Musgrave Roadhouse in the Caravan Park after a local football match.
Just report it & keep well out of it.
Musgrave Roadhouse is on the Peninsular Development Road.
The Indiginous Police did finally arrive, but along time after the drunken brawl rolled off down to the other end of town.

As for Akunu, as said above, you shouldn't need to go there.
The Police may have been hoping that the fight would sort things out.
I have seen far worse fights between Aboriginal women using iron bars with shocking results.
Also, we must remember that the media always pick the worst parts to show & tell!
Drive according to conditions, many people do drive too fast up on the development Road. & on the wrong side to avoid the corrugations.
Take care, safe travels. Ma.
