The Greta Bunyip
Hi all,
I'm just after some
feedback with respect to how busy this place is.
We've a 4WD camper trailer & completely self-sufficient. Looking to visit
Canberra this September (outside of the NSW School Holiday fortnight), but being so close to
Canberra I'd expect it busy all year round. We're happy to
camp but like a bit of space & privacy where possible. Hence my question.
I'm just trying to avoid driving all the way through
Canberra after a long drive if the
campground is going to be full upon arrival . So I'm happy to receive any honest
feedback. Thanks.

Every time I drive past it (which is about at least once a fortnight) I am surprised that there are always people using it. Mixture of tents, caravans and campers.
Agree in good weather it will be packed but September is still a bit cool in
Canberra so should be fine.

You will see a number of the same camps, vans etc each time you drive past so some people are living there on a permanent basis.

Hi Greta Bunyip, not sure why the post didn't link the
Cotter Campground page we have published in our
Places database for you automatically, so I've just linked it to this post. Hopefully the information there will be of some use to you.

TGB,
We stayed there last year overnight (in our caravan) and then on to the
Canberra South CP for a few days to attend the Dawn Service. Cotters was busy, but surprisingly the
Canberra Caravan Park was empty if you didn't need power. The CP on the website said it was totally booked out, so don't believe that. The area was huge to
camp on and grassy. Don't know about facilities as we didn't use them.
I would stay there again.
Cheers,

If you stayed at the
Canberra South CP it is a wonder you got out with all your goods and chattels as that CP does not have a great reputation locally - too many bogans.
That is why it was empty.

If you want peace and quiet and a bit of space dont go to Cotter.
Gundaroo Recreational ground's a better option only a little further from
Canberra CBD (North) , nice little village with Pub, Grocery store with cafe, Pizza Cafe and 5 star restraunt. Fee is by modest donation. Normally you can expect to share the whole ground with one or two other campers at most. You will need to be self contained as only
toilets are provided, no powered sites and no showers.
Don't plan to be ther for the October LWE because thats the Gundaroo Music Festival and the place will be packed with
no camping on site.
Gundarooster!
