I too miss the T2, It was getting on a bit (270k), so I sold it and started driving my dads ute after he died. It was a non turbo '98 Courier, so exhausting to drive as I think I willed it along more than the motor. It was cheap transport and had a bit of sentimental value.
I sold that just on 2 years ago and bought a new BT50 dual cab with a 1.8m tray back.
It has more poke than the Terrano, can fit a heap more on the back and with traction control and the diff locker can probably go further as
well. It is a pig in town though, too bloody long and car parks can be a challenge. Steel bull bar on the front and ally tray on the back, what is the worst that can happen... to me that is?
It goes
well, has better air con, electrickery, doesn't threaten to boil in summer and the seats are reasonably comfy, but I don't get that small thrill you get when you climb behind the wheel and turn the key that a car you really enjoy driving gives you and I used to get even going to work at 05.45 on Monday in the Terrano II.
