Spot on Milton,

It should have been called the Birdsville Oval Concert.

Cheers

Maybe they're all still travelling, or still sobering up in Birdsville, ready to hit the road?

I went to last year's Bash and put up a thread about it. But then it only took me a day to get home........

All the artists were very good with the exception of Jimmy Barnes who walked out, didn't engage the audience at all and just screamed unintelligibly. I do like his music normally and enjoyed it last year at the bash. The venue was OK, but nothing like the atmosphere of Big Red. The number of people attending was massive, over 6000, bad I doubt that the original venue would have coped with the number of campers.
They did have a huge screen next to the stage which was o big help to those not close to the front.
I suppose that the organisers had to make a call about whether to risk the venue drying out in time before the event as the logistics of staging it were huge.
In the end I think it was better to have the concert where it was than have that many people stranded at Big Red.
All in all, a great driver, beautiful scenery and some great music and company.
Will probably do it again next year.

No problems Tim, hope the feedback helped.
Fred,
Drove from Brisbane to the bash through Quilpe, Windorah.
Roads were all good with some minor puddles on the development road.
The last 10 klm's into Birdville were the worst!
Came home via Bedourie, Boulia,
All good, with lots of traffic. Sign at Birdsville said water over at Cuttaburra crossing. Now normally I would expect a little water on the road.
Wrong, approx 1.5klms of water around 50 cm deep across the dirt road.
Travelling alone there were some muscle clenching moments, but all good in the end.
Still working our way home, currently in Jerico sitting front of a campfire.
Hard life, but someone has to do it!

The organisers had to make an early call on the venue. Water at Big Red would not have allowed practical camping so it became the Birdsville Oval Bash. The first day had some logistics problems that were quickly addressed so that days 2 and 3 went smoothly. Camping in the general area was great, but some of the earlybird ticket holders did not see value for money. As said before Jimmy Barnes was not up to expectations, but ALL other artists performed well and engaged the crowd.
We arrived there on the Wednesday before the event, roads had just opened and the Birdsville track was quite wet and muddy.
We really enjoyed the experience, met some great people, and really look forward to next year in the hope that it will be at Big Red.

We went with some friends and had a wonderful time. It was cold and windy at times but hey - rug up!. The music and artists were terrific except for Jimmy Barnes who I thought was very ordinary. There was not one good thing about his performance. The drive home down the Arrabury road was fantastic too - so much feed, stunning scenery, flowers, waterholes. The crowd at the bash was great too, smiling, happy and willing to talk to anyone. A terrific job was done by the organisers and the Diamantina Shire to get the show's venue changed and it all worked really well. Toni
