Hi,

Has anyone here ever had to replace or rebuild an engine on a 100 Series petrol cruiser.Mine died the other week coming back from the snow and I'm currently looking at options as to how to go about it.

The car is in good condition otherwise and has lots of additions over the years so to scrap the car and start again would be a much more expensive and unrealistic option.

The car is no longer a daily drive and is used mainly for touring or offroad travelling in Vic high country mainly.

So if anyone has any experience with a rebuild or replacement engine then any advice or information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Those engines are common as mud on Ebay, Gumtree or from wreckers. Not a lot of coin for them either.

Have you checked ot LCOOL.org for info?
Best place for cruiser info.

"mine died" is pretty vague if you are asking for advice on what to do.
If "died" means it put a rod through the block then you dont have an exchange unit.
If "died" means it burnt a valve thats something totally different with many other options on what to do with it

Shakadog,

As others have said, more detail would be handy, you can buy a 2nd hand engine (click here) on EBay for $5,500 plus shipping.

That sort of money make a engine transplant worthwhile.

Good luck.

Yep Dad's UZJ threw a rod @55K but it was replaced under warranty. Now at their current age just find a second hand low k engine and have it fitted. What exactly happened to your engine?

There are plenty of those motors available.
Second hand at a wrecker.
they are a bulletproof motor if serviced well

Thanks for all the responses so far. To answer the main question asked about exactly what's happened to the engine I don't know yet. I'm not super mechanical, I can tell you when something isn't right with my cars and where because the feel or noise etc has changed but you wouldn't want me fixing it, I leave that to the experts. I can't put Ikea furniture together without parts left over lol.
All I know is there was mad revving while on cruise control, lots of noise, deceleration, white smoke everywhere and we rolled to a stop on the Hume freeway 2 hours out of Melbourne.
The car is at the mechanics and I'm waiting to find out what damage exactly has been done. I know there is a hole in the bottom somewhere as there was no oil left as it all came out.
So guess I'm trying to decide if I just fix or do a direct replacement with the same engine or are there other more powerful options that fit that are tried and tested and don't tear the rest of the car apart if utilised.
Hopefully I'll find out in the next few days what the damage actually is but I'm not expecting good news at all somehow.
