Has anyone been travelling this road recently ? Could you take a caravan on it ? It was recently closed due to rain a few weeks ago. We plan to leave Karumba in a few days . Johno

Yes you can take a van on it ...with care..it is very rough in places but take it easy and drive to the prevailing conditions and you should be o.k. It was 2yrs ago that we were on it but I doubt very much that anything would have changed...cheers

A lot depends on the van itself. Some of the creek crossings are steep sided and the recent rain may have made them worse, so if your van has a low rear end you will be dragging its butt in some places.

It is still doable but you'll need to be careful in some spots.

Haha..... IMO ~ in my opinion .
Plenty of vans on the road of all types ...
Go easy on the grids , creeks etc .
Very dusty in some places ~ not wet at all .

Hi Johno

I can only comment on the section of road from Normanton through to Burketown as of last June 2015.

I know that any dirt road will drastically change with weather conditions, but as far as I was concerned, the road was in perfect condition and not a problem at all.

Here are some images of what it was like back then, but seeing that we have driven many great outback dirt roads, this would have to to on the top of the list for perfect conditions.

Cheers

Stephen
