What about a toyota hilux dual cab in the 3.0 litre turbo diesel, is it gutsy enough to tow a 17 foot caravan, specs from the toyota homepage qoute 85 kw and 280nm or thereabouts torque, isn't this a bit light on for a diesel where I've got heaps of heavy work to do. Full on four wheel driving ability needed too - any comments please

Hi Paull
Got a message from LCOOL today that a new 3LTR Common rail TD is coming. 125ish KW & 350ish Nm Torque from memory. Pay to see if you can wait for that, otherwise go with Navara.. :)

Just to correct your figures there, paul - 85 kw and 315 nm (not 280).

Has heaps of guts for me, particularly low down torque for off roading - but I haven't towed anything as heavy as a 17 foot caravan.

My car in standard trim weighs in at 2430 kg, and I regularly tow a ski boat and trailer with no noticeable effect (except for fuel economy, naturally)]

For anything serious off-road the rear leaf springs will let you down.

Had one of them for 20,000k's last year, and towed plenty of boats and our camper trailer no problem, but have driven others that were slugs. Replaced it with a new prado t/d and don't think it goes as well as the hilux did.
