I know this in exploroz but wondered if any members also own a campervan etc oversea's?
The Wife and I just returned from Europe where we travelled through France, Germany and Scandinavia via camper van and absolutely loved it. As we are near retirement we are playing with the idea of spending half the year over in Europe and the other half back in Oz. So far our research seems to suggest that the best approach is to buy the campervan in Germany and then register it wherever suits (EU) which is Sweden in our case as we have family and storage facilities there for winter. Anyway just wondering if anyone has gone down this path and can share their experiences?

We toured Europe in a motorhome for 6 months each year for 3 years 2013 - 2015 Mark. It was owned by friends and registered in Germany. It was stored in a farmer's barn (new building, concrete floor) for the winter for 180 euros for 6 months, just across the border in the Netherlands.

3 years was really not enough, but it was a great experience.

This is the best site to buy a motorhome

We have friends who have 4 low cost motorhomes, one in each of the USA, Europe, South America and Australia and they move from one place to the other.

Thanks Peter.
Just the sort of feedback we are looking for : ) We have been on and see plenty of used campers on that site. We will probably get temporary registration in Germany and then transfer it to Sweden later on for insurance purposes.
Sounds like you had a great trip over the 3 years!

Hi Peter

Was it owned/registered by friends due to ownership difficulties for someone not residing in the country of registration?

It was their motorhome MH, but it is difficult for a non resident to own and insure a vehicle in most of Europe.

I know Ron Moon owns a 4wd with slide on camper in the US.
He travels over and spends a number of months tripping around North America and stores it some place when he flys home.

So it's done by others and seems quite feasible.
Something I've thought about doing in a few years time also.
