Hi all,
Friends front diff went bang on the weekend. It has a factory locker. Just wondering if anyone has any advice I can pass on to him about who he should talk to about getting it fixed and is there any strengthening mods that can be made?
Thanks,
Leroy

I had to give
mine some assistance to stuff it up but Toyota replaced OK.
What was he doing at the time? Don't know of any mods that can help but would be interested to hear.. I can hear Roachie saying put in a Pootrol front end, rear end, donk, body etc etc but he doesn't know any better so just ignor him.

backwards !! LOL

He was going forward up at
hill and could hear a crunch every wheel revolution. Was only carrying his own weight!!

The front diffs on the 100 series is the equivalent of the Series II patrol 3.0ltr donk....total waste of space. Most people who buy 100 series only want them as school buses and shopping trolleys anyway, so it won't be a problem for most owners.
Just remember lads, before you tackle anything more than a country road in a 100 series, make sure you have a good reliable Patrol (& that covers the whole range except the aforementioned 3.0ltr Series II) in the convoy to tow you back
home. LOLOL hahahahahaha

Leroy, replace the diff with an ARB air locker. The centre housing is much stronger
and there are very few reports of anyone breaking them.(that havn't been abused)
Some also replace the crushable spacer with a machined one to minimise the flex even more. Certainly worked for me as I towed another N****n up a
hill (again)on the weekend................... stir.

seems a waste to toss a factory locker.

With all those teeth crunching around in there it would be interesting to see how much of the factory locker is salvagable. Must also say this is the first 100 front diff with FL that I've heard of blowing up. Craig.......

If I were you I would put in a Patrol front end, rear end, donk, body etc
Sorry, couldn't resist...just kidding, Hope you have a happy ending with this as it's a common story.
Cheers

Ive done 3 front diffs in 8 months in my 105 cruiser with factory locker. although they are one of the most simple locking system around, they place to much weight on the crown wheel (hilux). I have done mods to my vehicle including running 315/75r16 (35 inch) MTR's and thought the vehicle was to be exceptional in the bush. I drive the cruiser with the 4 wheel drive club and probably "ABUSE" my vehicle (as some of you like to put it), but I believe the 105 series to be superior to any ather large 4wd available. More Power, More comfort. But to my disgust, I think I am going to have to replace the front diff with a Gu/GQ Nissans diff because they are a lot stronger. I just wont be able to tell me mates!
