Interesting - looks like they have given OziExplorer the flick though details a bit vague..

Hema HX-1 Navigator

Wonder if you can still use your own maps?

Does this new model replace the HN7?

Have seen some sizeable discounts on the HN-7 from a number of suppliers today.

No you can't use other maps in the HX1 - the HN7 is the product for that.

Yes - I have established (by way of a little bird) that the HX-1 runs the Hema Explorer App which has been around for a while and available for other Android devices. I am lead to believe the Hema Explorer App only allows the use of proprietary format maps downloaded via the App itself.

Also the unit itself runs a version of Android that is "locked" so the average punter can't add other Android Apps.

Hi Greg

If that is the case, it sounds like a backward step, as like many users, I have added lots of more detailed maps to my Hema Navigator.

Or it could be a smart business move to get you to spend more money to add maps that you can only buy from the app?

Cheers

Yes - all about making money - Locking the program so it can only use maps you have to buy from the same device/app manufacture has been the way for a while e.g. existing Hema Apple and Android apps. Fair enough I suppose - a successful business plan requires a profit to be made.

Anyway it is one reason I am never likely to buy one....not for work anyway.

Cheers
