We are heading from Albury north to
Cairns, then across via Mt Surprise to
Normanton, Lorn
Hill to Mt Isla, pulling our 2009 18ft poptop with Pajero. We are looking at advise on somewhere to stay at
normanton for a couple of nights, So we can then travel to Kurumba for a day trip. Is It worth taking van up for a couple of days to Kurumba or just doing a day trip. Your help please

Hi Pinko
He is correct in the way he is travelling.
There are a couple of way from
Cairns through to
Normanton, then the
Savannah Way through to
Burketown then down to
Gregory and then the short step through to
Lawn Hill.
From there the dirt road down to the Isa.
Cheers
Stephen

Howdy
Definitely stay at
Karumba for a few days. Relaxing, great prawns, fishing, and the best sunsets enjoyed at the pub with a cold one.
Also
check out
Burke & Wills camp 119 near
Normanton, very interesting.
Enjoy
Lawn Hill it is amazing!!
Cheers
Evan

Hi Evan
They would want to book
well in advance to get into any of the Caravan Parks in Kurumba.
When we pulled into the town and ask at the
Tourist Information Centre and asked about the caravan park, the first thing the lady said, I hope you have book in, as every park was fully booked out, and was early June.
There are 2 caravan parks in
Normanton, with most people staying in the one in the centre of the town, as
well as the
free camp on the other side of the
bridge, and permits must be obtained from the Tourist Office.
Yes,
Lawn Hill is a top spot and we loved staying at Adels Grove.
Cheers
Stephen

Definitely stay in Kurumba and book
well ahead. Same for
lawn hill at Adels grove or national park. Look into Undara Lava Tubes and Corbold
gorge. Great locations for a couple of days each.

Good caravan park in the middle of town at
Normanton, just over the road from the purple pub. Agree
Karumba Pt is crowded at that time of year, and the caravan parks are very squashy. But the comments above about sunsets and the foreshore pub are correct -
well worth a visit.

Leichhardt Lagoon is a great place to stay. It's a
bush camp about 18km south east of
Normanton on the Savanah Way.
Stayed there in 2015 and it was about $10/night. Had showers and
toilets.
Karumba will be very busy at that time of year and you would be lucky to find a caravan site. We drove into
Karumba from Leichhardt Lagoon and had a look around, from memory about 90km.
