EO Traveller app issue

I think you will find it gives the "constructing overlays" message every time you open the app - at least mine does and always has

Yeah! It normally happens but this seemed to take a huge amount of time - heaps longer than usual.

Cruza - only had the app running - once it had done what it did, the downloads where pretty quick and without incident.

Probably a passing clitch with the wifi.

When I open the app on iPad mini4 the map opens up almost instantly

I have the app on my iPhone 5s 32gb which is almost full (1.3gb to spare) and it does the constructing overlays for about 8 seconds.

Might be to do with model/ speed of chip in different iPad/phone models.

I am sure David could enlighten us if he reads this

Overlay construction happens at each boot of the app - what is happening is that the system opens the places database, read all records and adds them to the map. This is about 90,000 records and this can take some time, it is all dependant on the CPU speed and available memory of your device. So may take a little longer than others. I have been trying to work out a faster way however the data is large and takes some time to read no matter how I store it.

Happening for a longer time may happen just after an update of the places data as it also can take a long time to write the places to the database after the update has occurred. The subsequent read to build the overlay data on the map cannot complete till the whole write process has completed - I have seen this take several minutes on some devices.

Not sure what was happening there wicket but glad it is sorted now. The stored database are refreshed on the website every 2 hours so there may have been a corruption at some point in time that then sorted itself or maybe some form of connection problem.
