Has anyone here had problems with using 256 k SD cards , I had read once that 128 cards were a better option . Is there any logic in this or should I just go 256 and forget about it .

Eric,
I have a 256 mb card in my Magellan and it works fine.Have a look at the Yahoo groups "Mageloz" group and ask some questions and you will learn all you need to know.

I have a 256 Card with Map Send & Great desert tracks loaded, seems to work ok, no problems so far although only had it for a few weeks.

Same here. 256Mb card in the Meridian Colour with no probs so far. You can apparantly fit the whole of Australia from the DiscoverAus CD on it if you do the regions correctly. I think there is a guide to this on the Johnny Appleseed site.

128Mb is the biggest size mentioned on the Magellen website or in the book but my 256Mb works fine.

Go the 256mb card, but get it preloaded with the Australia wide maps, otherwise doing it yourself, you have to purchase a card reader to load the map regions from your computer to the card. Learnt this the hard way as I like to do things my way

Eric there are some particular SD cards that were a problem, it was a date thing where a particular one had a revision to the firmware. It was all overcome to my knowledge by the version 5.12 firmware in the Magellan. I had to do that with my Platinum the same as yours as the SD card I bought was an offending one.

Don't forget if you are loading maps to the SD card it is best done from a reader or will take many hours for the 256 Megs of files. Have fun mate. There is a lot on the Yahoo Magellan Group about it.

Hi Eric
I have had no problems with the 256 meg card in my gold. I have discover aus running and find it works ok.
I find it a bit slow to update when i am driving along but i dont think it has to do with the card
Cheers Tim

Eric

256mb SD cards are fine with the the Meridian Gold/Platinums, just make sure you download and install version 5.12 firmware to get around the 'recognition' bug referred to earlier (also fixes in large part the lagging problem).

John R hit it on the head

"It was all overcome to my knowledge by the version 5.12 firmware in the Magellan"

Flashed mine when I did the works to it, and its all happy as a policeman in excrement.
