I have this on my iPhone and would appreciate if anyone can advise how I can stop my phone turning off every couple of minutes - it is very frustrating having to keep resetting.

Go to the Home screen

Select > settings > general > auto-lock > never.

Just remember to have a fully charged phone and if possible have it connected to power as a constant display and map usage will chew through your battery.

The instructions I gave above are for IPhone 4.

My sons iPhone 5 and my wife's iPhone 6 are as described by cruza25

Hope it helps.

Actually you don't need to do that, as there is a setting in the app for this - go to settings - go to map screen settings - select Stay Awake.
