Take a chainsaw to cut what ? very little wood around the countryside these days, what there is would be on private property...scrounge some along your way.

Your chainsaw is no match for the 410 if your on private property without specific permission to take even fallen timber .....

Hi Alloy

The moment that the 410 comes out, he will want to have a very good layer, as it would them become a criminal offence that will have far greater ramifications than collecting wood.

Threatening someone with a gun will not go down well in any court and you can not take the law into your own hands, as we are not living in the Wild West days of the 1800's

Stephen , threat ? Who's making a threat ? There are idiots who think that they can just go 'anywhere' with their chainsaw ..... like the dipsticks who are to stupid to realise that you do NOT pickup fallen timber in the Simpson ,,,, no not a 'wildlife warrior ' just making a 'point'........

How do we get from...

Is there anywhere near Longreach/Winton that sells bags of firewood?

To

Take a chainsaw...
Your chainsaw is no match for the 410...
He will want a good layer (sic)...
Expressions of threats
Idiots who think they can go anywhere with their chainsaw...
Dipsticks picking up fallen timber in the Simpson...

None of that helps the OP. He asked a simple and specific question. Why do all the chest beaters and dick pullers have to come out with useless and superfluous bits of information in an attempt to appear as the most knowledgable, well travelled member of the forum?

The comments are not aimed at this post in particular, but the many that are running or have run on the forum. The comments, in isolation, are not worthy of moderation but many posts are so of topic they belong over on an "Agony Aunts" forum.

We stand to loose the integrity of the forum if we don't moderate our own behaviour and comments. Just look how many of the "long term and experienced" posters post less and less(if at all).

Food for thought!

cheers, appreciate the effort. thanks to all the other posters, im not going onto anyones land to cut stuff, im not about to scrounge in national park, as that is an offence as well.

i do want to ask though, is it permissible to leave spare firewood in the national park at the camp ground, or do i take it with me and leave it elsewhere?

to the lawyers, gun, chainsaw people, it doesnt bother me what people say on a forum, its like real life, take the info you want, and the leave the rest for the tossers in life.

cheers to the good ones :)

thanks

Goat

I don't know if it is permissible or not (can't see why it wouldn't be), but I always leave excess wood at a campsite. Nothing better than rocking in and not having to worry about wood.

I believe in paying it forward - especially when someone else has a like mind and left me some wood stacked and ready to go.

I do get cranky when I see others go around and collect all the left over wood and take it with them in the morning.

Cheers
