hi guys

i've seen some recent press about opening of the savannah way. we are 2 weeks off going from brisbane to cairns to darwin in a falcon towing a camper trailer. does anybody know if it's sealed from cairns to normanton and then to mt isa?

i'm happy to go back to townsville after cairns and do it the usual way but i'd love to explore the new route if it's a comfortable trip in a 2 wheel drive. we don't want to rough it too much on corrugations if we can help it.

does anybody know what the latest is with this route?

cheers

unit

Check Sat Courier Mail. Page 16. Might be worth looking at the RACQ site or calling them.

Normanton to Cairns via Croydon, Georgetown, Mt Surprise etc is sealed all the way and has been for a few years, lots of things to look at on way also Normanton to Karumba is sealed as is Normanton to Cloncurry and Mt isa--enjoy the trip

thanks guys

i did read the article in the paper but it spoke in very broad terms and gave no website reference.

i was under the impression that cairns to normanton and then isa was a bit rough in a standard 2WD and that we would have to back track.

looks like we'll be going the top way and maybe checking out karumba too.

i can hardly wait. we leave in exactly 1 week and will gone for 8-10 weeks. this last week at work will be one of the slowest ever.

thanks for the advice.

unit.
