Donuts

I use this recipe as both the kids and my wife and I enjoy it. We always carry a good quantity of peanut oil, cheap and effective. When the bread gets a little stale we make donuts, well sort of. You might already know this one. Heat up sufficient oil (we use dutch oven), spread strawberry or raspberry jam (or your fav) on two slices of bread. Make a sandwich in other words. Cut in quarters diagonally. With a prepared batter, dip in a quarter just like you would when battering fish etc., and drop it in the oil.

When it looks golden brown, not burnt, drop it in a mix of sugar and cinnamon and have a wonderful treat.

Thats sounds easy enough so think I'll give it a try. How do I make batter, flour and water or what?

Ray,

Yes batter is pretty easy. You can make it with beer if you like but that could be seen as a waste. Water is fine although I add a little sugar to sweeten it, really gets the sweet going. I use egg yokes as well or two eggs. Enjoy.
