The
Cook and I decided to try this road out as we wanted to get up to the
camp spots on the Ashburton River quicker than going via the
Onslow Rd.
There had been torrential rain the day before as we came from
Coral Bay so we were a bit wary. We'd stopped overnight at the Barriedale
camp and left around 0900hrs, checked the track at the bottom end a couple of kays away and all looked dry enough so off we went.
Great run with a few sandy spots but very few corruptions and no problems at all.
Only one
gate to open/close and a pleasant drive and suitable for any van.

It certainly cuts off a lot of kays but maybe not so much in time if you just amble along as we did. We too had often wanted to do it and after the very heavy rain we drove through from the Burkett Road were dubious whether we would be able to this time but the rain ceased just a few kays before the Barradale
rest stop and was good all the way. Enjoy.
