Hi,
I recently was advised by Shannons Insurance (I had been a previous client)
that they could not cover my 04 LC if I was on the road for more than 3 months with no fixed address.
Reason was I would be in residing caravan parks some of the time.
I basically selling up everything and hitting the road for 3-6 months.
I know there are many on the road who are gone for 3-6 months so how does everyone else get their insurance when travelling more than 3 months?
Many thanks,
Steve

Easiest way is to talk to an insurance broker. Let them do the running around

Cruiser,
Are you saying that you were seeking a new policy with Shannons and they declined or you have a current policy and they won't allow you to continue with it? If the latter, your circumstances are a little unusual but I can't imagine they breach any conditions of your policy. I can't even see why you would need to disclose your travel plans other than to ensure they had an address for correspondence such as renewal notice etc. I assume that you will have arranged an address for all correspondence whilst you are travelling and that should be all that Shannons need. In fact many insurers are now happy to send accounts to an email address. Your home / garaging address is a rating factor with most insurers but it is only relevant at renewal time. They could easily overcome this if you are going to be of 'no fixed abode' when renewal comes around. If you were seeking a new policy I can understand their reticence to offer cover.

I had the same issue with Shannons.
I now have 4wd and caravan insured with Ken Tame through CMCA and am covered anywhere i am legally allowed to be whilst saving over $500 from my previous policies.
