I am planning to traverse the
Anne Beadell Highway in April 2018.
Are there any other like minded folks who may be thinking of travelling this track at about the same time?? West to East. I would like to know if there were others on the track at the same time for peace of mind in case of mishaps.
Thanks.....Skip

Hi Skip
I can't join you, because we're off along the
Gary Junction and then up to the Gulf this year.
But we did the AB last year and it's a fantastic trip. Some really good campsites along the way and a few of them have long drops and
water suitable for washing etc.
You need to be prepared for a bit of pin-striping as the track is narrow in parts. Nothing particularly difficult, though I wouldn't tow anything larger than a good off-road camper trailer.
The western end from
Leonora is a wide graded road because there is quite a bit of mining activity in the area, and it gets a bit rougher as you go east.
Need to check with Maralinga/
Woomera, as sometimes sections of the eastern end are closed due to testing in the prohibited area.
There's not a lot of traffic on the AB, but certainly enough that you don't need to worry too much about travelling solo - so long as you have a
well set-up ehicle and the necessary communications gear.
Enjoy!!

I'm heading out there end of June when the
Woomera Prohibited zone reopens but would be keen to see your report once you have done it so I get an idea of what to expect. We are then heading up the Canning and across to Alice via Kiwikurra then across the Northern Simpson.

Thanks cookie 1. We are in no hurry and plan on taking between 10 and 12 days to do it. Maybe 100 to 150 per day. Will take pics along the route. If I remember, I will send you some on my return mid May perhaps...Skip

Thanks Ivan. Some of it means one way for a bit and back again?? W to E or other way?? I am told the
Laverton end is very good for the first 150 kliks, but the E end is very corrugated, I am going W to E to avoid the setting sun. Morning sun is ok after the sun has been up an hour or so. And we are planning 10 to 12 days for the journey. So in no hurry and the sun should be
well up before we hit the track every day...Regards Skip
